GENERAL COLLECTIONS

 

  • Original copies of almost all known surviving Manistee County newspapers.

  • City directories dating from 1883 to present.

GENEALOGY COLLECTION

MIDDLETON MARINE COLLECTION

 

  • A library of 300 books detailing Great Lakes Marine History.

  • Data on commercial vessels visiting the port of Manistee.

  • Port of records of commercial vessels arriving and clearing Manistee from 1879 to 1926.

How do I research at the museum?

  • Access to archival material is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

  • Appointments MUST BE made at least one week in advance.

  • The museum’s hours are seasonal and are subject to staff availability. 

  • Regular museum admission fee ($3.00) MUST BE paid at the front counter.


ONSITE RESEARCH FEES are as such
 

  • $10 ACCESS FEE (includes admission fee) to the museum’s files which includes city directories, genealogy, subject files, maps, photographs, Manistee County tax records, and any other documentation that the museum may have in its collection.

 

  • Museum staff will provide 30 mins of assistance with the access fee (this includes the handling and copying of newspapers, scanning photos, making photocopies, etc.)
     

  • After 30 mins, the rate for assistance is $30 PER HOUR with a minimum of 1 hour.

 

OFFSITE/LONG DISTANCE RESEARCH FEES are as such
 

  • $10 ACCESS FEE (includes access fee) to the museum’s files which includes city directories, genealogy, subject files, maps, photographs, Manistee County tax records, and any other documentation that the museum may have in its collection.

 

  • Museum staff will provide 30 mins of assistance with the access fee (this includes the handling and copying of newspapers, scanning photos, making photocopies, etc.) 
     

  • After 30 mins, the rate for your project is $30 PER HOUR with a minimum of 1 hour.

 

  • Upon inquiry, museum staff will provide the researcher with the amount of time it will take to do the research (i.e. making photocopies, scanning, etc.) as well as a dollar amount that will be charged for materials (i.e. photocopies, postage, etc.)
     

  • Fees in the form of cash, check or money order can be sent to:

  • After a cost is settled upon by museum staff and researcher, the researcher can use the following PayPal link to pay for the cost of research.



     

 

 

  • After the museum receives the form of payment, museum staff will provide research within 21 days.
     

OTHER RESEARCH FAQS
 

  • Personal research for Sustaining and Patron Museum Members is free and researchers will receive a 50% discount on photo orders.
     

  • Photocopies are .25 cents per copy.
     

  • Photographs can be scanned or a copy of an existing scanned photo can be emailed to you at a cost of $10. All photos are scanned at approximately 300 dpi or higher. 
     

  • If you desire a print of an image, arrangements can be made to email the image to Jackpine Business Center where you can pick it up per Jackpine’s copy fee cost.
     

  • Copies of museum materials and photos (digital or otherwise) are subject to a copyright license agreement which must be signed by anyone obtaining an image of any museum material regardless of who created the image.
