31/40 Frank White

Frank White was born Atchison, Kansas in 1869 and after high school graduating in 1886, attended a business college before enrolling in a pharmacy school in Philadelphia.

He came to Manistee to work for the A.H. Lyman Company in 1890 during a summer vacation from pharmacy school and returned to make his home here following his graduation in 1891. Following A.H. Lyman's death in 1896, White became head of the company.

In 1892, Frank married his high school classmate, Wilma Reid Miller and two daughters would later follow.

Other than becoming one of Manistee's longest remaining River Street businessmen, White remained active in civic affairs during his tenure as he served on many boards and committees over the years.

He passed away in November, 1952 and it is through his daughter Mrs. J.E. McCune, that the museum came to occupy the Lyman Building in 1961.
